So you’ve just been sugared, now what? For the best results possible from a sugaring service, the first 24-48 hours are very important. Although sugaring is gentler than waxing, skin can still become a little irritated. To reduce irritation, follow these simple steps:
- No exercise within 24 hours after your sugaring appointment. This is a great excuse to skip a workout! Exercising can cause sweating as well as friction on the skin. Your freshly de-haired skin needs time to breathe and calm down, so exercise is not a good idea. To avoid skipping a workout, exercise and shower prior to your sugaring appointment.
- No hot tubs, swimming pools, or sun exposure for the first 48 hours. Hot tubs, swimming pools, bodies of water and exposure to the sun can all irritate and damage skin. So be sure to book your sugaring appoint at least three days before you plan to swim, lay on a beach, or soak in a hot tub. Showers after 24 hours are okay, just stick to warm (not hot) water and avoid scrubbing or using irritating or perfumed products on the sugared area.
- Wear breathable or baggy clothing after your appointment. This allows the area that’s been sugared to breathe and reduces friction.
- Don’t be alarmed if there is a little redness. Some redness is normal in the first 48 hours and should go away on its own. If you feel irritated, try using cold compresses on the area for 2-3 minutes at a time.
- Skip the lotions and potions. After sugaring, skin is happiest when it’s left alone for at least the first 24 hours.
- Avoid shaving between appointments. Sugaring is slightly more painful for shavers so it’s best to avoid shaving between sugaring appointments.
